Below is the comment I submitted as a part of sending-along my own opinion, as a small business owner:
I align myself with the opinion of NFIB CEO Brad Close's "Washington Examiner" article; in the sense that the federal government's mishandling regulations on health insurance, employment, "rules", subsidization of industry, even financial reporting requirements, and other examples not listed here; all create uncertainty with how every business ― small businesses and large businesses ― plan. Whatever the realm ― legal, human resources, general regulatory, permitting, tax code, health-related and health insurance related, financial reporting requirements ― all skew legitimate business activity, operations, expense/revenue-tracking, and overall strategizing. In turn, this also affects how businesses within a certain industry all plan and compete; thereby affecting how industry-by-industry operates in an overall macroeconomic environment with respect to the US Petrol Dollar, and to what the US Dollars go towards solving. The more US Dollars that go towards needless and inefficient subsidies, regulations, red-tape, regulations, reporting requirements; not only is the overall economy weaker, but consumers/clients/customers are ultimately hurt the most by rendering competition unable to play-out naturally. The more that politicians seek to force small business and big business into compliance on imagined sleights to someone-somewhere, the more uncertain and inefficient the macroeconomic environment is. That is, simply the day-in day-out transaction of business between customer/client and business/service-provider is tainted and skewed with non-business related requirements. Moreover, the more subsidizing invoked in various business industries ― entertainment ( cut-outs for major sports leagues ), broadcasting ( closely-controlled distribution ), including many other subsidies in many other realms; all contribute to uncertainty in planning. The overwhelming subsidizing dilutes actual on-the-ground business processes' natural "invisible hand" of providing a service/product to end-user, and logical compensation flowing to businesses upon provision. Furthermore, the COVID-19 era federal regulatory era illustrates the ineffectiveness of the federal government's dealing with small businesses like my own. Including, but not limited to, the PPP process was a hassle; and like most examples of dealing with the federal government, more complicated than it needed to be. To the politicians: Your subsidies, regulations, and tax rates may get you votes and US Dollars into your checking accounts; but knock it off. You are kicking-off revolutionary mindsets in younger generations. All you have to do is look at the French Revolution, the Bolshevik Revolution, the Weimar Republic ( leading to Hitler ), and the chinese communist party revolution under Mao Tse-Tung to see how it ends up for the nobles and politicians; and how it ends up for overall society. Just because we are the world's Primary Reserve Currency ( the US Petrol-Dollar), it does not mean it cannot happen to us. Restore Normalcy into our economy. Stop this.
